Dunning Appointed Chief Strategy Officer at Widmeyer Communications

WASHINGTON, DC - Widmeyer Communications recently announced the appointment of Margaret Suzor Dunning to Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). In her new role, Dunning will be dedicated to client strategy development and ensuring integration of agency services.

“Many of our clients have been with us for years because we generate strong results and provide senior-level strategic value,” said Scott Widmeyer, Chairman of the independent firm with offices in Washington, DC and New York City.  “As we seek to further elevate that commitment to excellence, Margaret’s leadership in this area will be invaluable.”

“Anyone who has worked with Margaret understands the key benefits she brings to this larger, client-focused firmwide position,” said Joe Clayton, President and CEO. “The strategic thinking she will provide to every Widmeyer client will create significant visibility opportunities and a demonstrated return on their investment.”

As CSO, Dunning will work across the firm, and with every client team, focusing on high level media strategy, crisis communications and long term client positioning.

Based in the firm’s DC office, Dunning has played lead roles on behalf of Pearson Education, Fannie Mae, the College Board, Texas Instruments, Lumina Foundation for Education, First Marblehead and the Association of American Publishers, as well as a variety of other corporate, government, nonprofit and foundation clients.

Prior to joining Widmeyer, Dunning was vice president and director of communications for Public Agenda, a New York-based nonpartisan, nonprofit public opinion research and citizen education organization.  Dunning has also worked for The Advertising Council on campaigns ranging from drunk driving awareness and Head Start to forest fire prevention with the Ad Council’s oldest icon, Smokey Bear.  On the broadcast front, Dunning headed up the television production company responsible for “The McLaughlin Group” and “John McLaughlin’s One on One,” which are seen on NBC and PBS stations nationwide, as well as “McLaughlin,” one of CNBC’s first evening programs.

During the Reagan Administration, Dunning worked in the Office of Management and Budget, after having been a Capitol Hill staffer for a Member of the House Ways and Means Committee.  She is a graduate of Trinity College and a member of the Board of Directors for The Sewall-Belmont House and Museum.
