Smith Named Partner at Widmeyer Communications

Twelve-year Veteran Has Played Key Role in Firm's Pre-K - 12 Practice

WASHINGTON, DC – Widmeyer Communications announced today that Jason Smith, a twelve-year veteran of the firm, has been named an equity partner.  Smith, who began his career at Widmeyer as an account manager, has led Widmeyer’s growing Pre-K-12 practice for the past five years and has extensive education experience in both the private and public sectors.

“Jason’s dedication to his clients and to the firm is incredible and his skills in strategic communications are unmatched,” said Scott Widmeyer, founder and chairman of the agency. “He understands how to navigate his clients to success in today’s more complex and changing world of communications.”

Other partner-principals at Widmeyer include Joe Clayton as president and CEO and Margaret Dunning as Chief Strategy Officer.

“Widmeyer was the first firm in the market to focus on education as a specialty area, and remains the largest firm with a dedicated practice in this space,” said Smith. “Our firm has been engaged in some of the most important issues and pressing policy decisions of our time. I’m proud of our legacy, and look forward to helping our clients embrace the new and diverse communications strategies now at our disposal.”

Smith has led some of Widmeyer’s largest and most visible social marketing and public education engagements, including the award-winning “Stop Bullying Now!” public awareness campaign for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the recently released National Math Panel’s final report. Other clients of Smith’s include Pearson Education, the American Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Fannie Mae and Texas Instruments.

Smith began his career on Capitol Hill, where he worked for Rep. Virginia Smith (R-NE) and Sen. Terry Sanford (D-NC). He graduated from Williams College in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He also spent a year studying politics and history at Exeter College, Oxford University.
