Jason F. Smith

Principal

Jason Smith is one of the firm's principals and leads Widmeyer's PreK - 12 Education Practice, which includes the College Board, Pearson Education, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and Texas Instruments, among others. He also directs Widmeyer's largest federal public information and engagement campaigns for both the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services.
 
Smith has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. Since joining Widmeyer in 1996 he has managed several of the firm's largest and most visible accounts.
 
Smith currently oversees the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Bullying Prevention Campaign. This award-winning multi-million dollar public service campaign includes public service announcements, a comprehensive web site, mass distribution of promotional material, and public-private partnerships with some of America's most visible brands. Smith's team also provided communications counsel and outreach on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education's National Math Panel.
 
Before joining Widmeyer, Smith was a member of the public sector practice group for Towers Perrin, an international management-consulting firm.  In addition, Smith worked in the offices of Rep. Virginia Smith (R-NE) and Sen. Terry Sanford (D-NC). 
 
Smith graduated from Williams College in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in history.  He also spent a year studying politics and history at Exeter College, Oxford University. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Hope, one of Washington, DC’s largest adult education and literacy programs.
