WHO WE ARE

Tad Segal

Senior Vice President

Tad Segal is a communications and governmental affairs professional with more than 17 years of experience specializing in high-visibility, proactive campaigns in the domestic and international arenas.  Segal has held various positions in government and the private sector, and has designed and implemented legislative and public awareness programs on issues concerning business, labor, transportation and international trade.

At Widmeyer, Segal directs the firm’s public affairs practice, helping clients successfully navigate the nexus between politics, government affairs and communications.  His recent projects include working to pass rail reform legislation in Congress backed by a broad coalition of businesses, trade associations and labor.

Prior to joining Widmeyer, Segal founded WinCampaign, LLC in 2002, a high-tech political campaign and grassroots management firm serving national, state and local campaigns.  His firm went on to achieve one of the highest win-ratios in the industry and was subsequently purchased in 2006 by NGP Software – the leading political campaign firm in Washington, DC.

Before founding WinCampaign, Segal served as Communications Director for United Parcel Service in Washington, DC where he was the company’s main spokesman and communications counselor on all domestic and international government relations, crisis communication and corporate issues.  In this capacity, Segal designed and executed an international communications strategy that helped the company win a highly competitive aviation route authority to fly directly into China, adding $100 million in revenue in the first year of operation.  Segal also guided UPS’s communications following the nationwide strike by the Teamsters in 1997.  He handled communications during the successful contract negotiations with the company’s pilots’ union and oversaw all public affairs messaging during the company’s record-breaking IPO in late 1999.

Prior to joining UPS, Segal spent nearly five years on Capitol Hill where he served as Press Secretary to then Rep. Craig Thomas and as Communications Director to then Majority Whip Sen. Alan Simpson.

Segal has also served as a producer for the McLaughlin Group and McLaughlin One on One television programs where he produced shows on various public affairs issues.

Before to coming to Washington, Segal served as the State Capital Bureau reporter for the Wyoming State Tribune and Eagle in Cheyenne.

Segal holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Rhode Island and an M.A. in Public Communication from American University in Washington, DC where he also served as adjunct professor, teaching a Master’s level course in political communication.
