Adam Shapiro
Adam Shapiro is an accomplished media trainer who combines a strong understanding of communications with expertise in many issue areas. He has consulted with or spoken about media issues at Johns Hopkins University, American University, the Council of Chief State School Officers and for many other groups, executives and leaders.
Shapiro has managed media productions for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), winning multiple awards for his work successfully promoting its advanced certification process. Shapiro has also been an investigative and political journalist for television affiliates in North Carolina, Michigan and Alabama. He has appeared on CNN, CNN International, CNBC, Court TV, Dateline NBC and MSNBC.
Shapiro’s half-hour documentary about Michigan National Guard Airmen protecting war-torn Bosnia received the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio-TV News Directors’ Association. His reporting has also received awards from the Associated Press and the Kansas City Press Club.
Prior to joining Widmeyer, Shapiro served as a press secretary to North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt. He was also a key advisor for the publication and release of Hunt’s book First in America: An Education Governor Challenges North Carolina and the First in America education report card.
